A whiteboard in use: a frame of ideas, a frame of decisions, and notes in both

What is an online whiteboard?

An online whiteboard is a shared canvas in the browser: a wall with no edges that everyone in a meeting can write on at once, from wherever they are. It does the job of the whiteboard and the pad of sticky notes in a meeting room, for a team that is not in one.

Blending Links is an online whiteboard made for workshops — the sessions where a group has to get its thinking onto a wall, sort it and decide something before the hour is up.

Real-time collaboration, built in

  • Everyone edits at once. Notes appear for the whole team as they are written, and each person's cursor shows with their name, so you can see who is working where.
  • One link to join. Share an editor or a viewer link. Guests open the board without an account and choose the name others see.
  • Follow the presenter. Spotlight your view and everyone's screen follows yours; anyone can step away by panning.
  • Decide together. Dwell voting lets everyone rest on the note that matters most to them for 2 seconds, and the board outlines the leader.
  • Keep time together. A shared countdown timer sits in the dock for everyone on the board.

What is on the board

Sticky notes in the colours a workshop needs, stacks of notes to peel copies from, frames that hold and count what is inside them, connectors between notes, and plain text. Start from an empty wall or from a template laid out for Event Storming, a retrospective or a kanban board.

Every board exports as SVG, PNG or PDF, and as an OCIF file: the board itself, in an open format you keep.

How to start an online whiteboard

  1. Open a board. One click on this page opens a live board. There is nothing to install and no sign-up.
  2. Share the link. Copy an editor link from the Share dialog and send it to the team.
  3. Work on it together. Double-click the board to add a note, draw a frame around what belongs together, and start a vote when it is time to choose.
No account needed. A board opens as a quick board. People you invite with a link can edit it for 50 minutes; after that it is read-only for everyone but you. Sign in to keep it with no time limit.

Online whiteboard FAQs

Do I need an account to use the whiteboard?

No. A quick board opens without one, and the people you invite do not need one either. Sign in when you want to keep boards in a workspace with no time limit.

How many people can collaborate on a board?

A board is made for a workshop: a team, or a team and its clients, all on the same wall at the same time. There is no seat count to buy before you can invite someone.

Does it work on a phone or a tablet?

Yes. The board runs in a mobile browser with touch gestures, and tapping a note votes for it.

Can I get my boards out again?

Always. Export any board as an OCIF file to reopen later or in another tool, or as SVG, PNG or PDF to send round.
